Let's see we have Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and
YouTube as the core social media solitions and I would add blogging as
the 5th. All the other sites mentioned above ie Digg, Foursquare, Bing,
etc also have their place depending on the type of business you have and
yor target market. If you have a retail site and focus on the consumer
then location based sites will definetly add to the branding and sales
referrals for your business, however if your more B2B focused and more
virtual, then they do not add much value to your marketing.
As i stated in anothe answer in 2011 we saw social media account for apx 25% of sales for most business that actively used it interact with their customers.

Wherever your target is:
-> Personal and professional then, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn...
-> Regional, i.e. Chinese market then, RenRen.
-> Keep an eye on Diaspora, too. It's the new development based on P2P social networks; this means, you will be able to host the software yourself so your data will be in your server.
